“Hey, are you auditioning for Umbra?”

Why is everybody talking about Umbra?

Umbra is Dartmouth’s only student written and produced One-Act Festival. Displaced produces Umbra every Winter Term with submissions due prior to the start of classes. Playwrights of all levels of experience are encouraged to submit and take part in the rehearsal and production process. Umbra gives students an opportunity to experience what it’s like to produce new work and collaborate on a script that is as contemporary as it gets.

  • Submissions for Umbra are currently closed and will reopen in the Winter of 2024.

  • How long should my play be?

Umbra script submissions should be no longer than 20 pages.

What should my play be about?

Umbra has no theme at present, we want to hear stories that excite you!

When should I expect to hear back about my submission?

Umbra submissions are currently closed, but works are selected at the start of Winter Term.
